Art Mediums: open

In 1934, Heartspring was founded as “The Institute of Logopedics,” a nonprofit organization in partnership with Wichita State University. The early service model prioritized children experiencing speech, hearing, and mobility challenges. Located on a beautiful 35-acre campus in Wichita, KS, it is now known as one of the most groundbreaking therapeutic schools and pediatric service centers in the world. Heartspring serves children and young adults with multiple intellectual and developmental needs such as: living with autism; challenges with speech, language, or communication; challenges with mobility and other motor functions; a limited ability to regulate emotions during times of stress; and other pediatric healthcare complexities. Whether your child requires our outpatient services or our intensive therapeutic school, Heartspring paves the path to greater independence.

The American Way Words, In partnership with VICTA 

Clarke Reynolds, born with limited sight, has navigated a path defined by both challenges and triumphs. His early inspiration from Franz Marc's "The Yellow Cow" ignited a passion for art, leading him to pursue a BA honors degree in model making. Despite setbacks, including the loss of his sight and a career in dental model making, Reynolds' artistic spirit remained undiminished. His discovery of textiles and Braille transformed his creative process, allowing him to explore art through touch and sound.  

His use of dots, inspired by pointillism and Braille, is a recurring motif, symbolizing his journey and the evolving nature of his vision. Through his innovative use of Braille, Reynolds challenges its conventional boundaries, using it as a medium to express the descriptive power of the English language. 

The American Way Words is more than an art exhibition; it's an interactive experience that invites us to perceive language and communication in new, inclusive ways, emphasizing the joy of discovery through tactile and visual means.

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the U.S. since 1949 and every year during the month of May, the Envision Arts Gallery will be committed to joining this national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Art is a powerful tool for self-care and mental health. Studies have shown that expression through art can help people with depression, anxiety, and stress. Art has also been linked to improved memory, reasoning, and resilience in aging adults. Together, we will aim to fight stigmas, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.

The Envision Arts Gallery in partnership with Mary Lynn Oliver and the Ellen Noël Art Museum is proud to welcome George Mendoza and his world-famous exhibition Colors of the Wind. Artist, athlete, and motivational speaker, George Mendoza is famous for creating colorfully vivid dreamscapes that capture the surreal essence of his experience. 

Based in Las Cruces, NM, George Mendoza is a world-renowned artist and writer and the CEO and President of the Wise Tree Foundation, Inc., which was established in 2013 to promote the arts for the disabled. Mendoza went blind when he was 15 and broke the world record for blind athletes running the mile in 4 minutes and 28 seconds in 1980. His art exhibit Colors of the Wind is on view with the National Smithsonian and he has also written a children’s book based on the exhibit. He was the producer for two nationally televised PBS documentaries based on his life story and has won many awards in the arts. Currently, a screenplay based on Mendoza’s life is being developed by writer Daniel Landes.
