Largest Employer of People Who Are Blind and Visually Impaired in North Texas Receives $1 Million Gift from Prominent Texas Family
Support for Envision Dallas’s capital campaign will help to consolidate programs and services into one centralized location and create more employment opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired in North Texas
DALLAS, TEXAS (January 6, 2023) — Envision Dallas has announced that it has received a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. Larry Kimbler to support its capital campaign efforts. The $1 million gift will be used to renovate a new facility to help fulfill the needs of more than 150,000 North Texans who are experiencing vision loss and a lack of services available to them. As one of the largest service providers to, and employers of, people who are blind or visually impaired (BVI) in Texas, Envision Dallas aims to provide life-changing opportunities to a population that is often overlooked.
Mr. Kimbler recently joined Envision’s board of directors and previously served as the chairman for the American Foundation for the Blind. Read the announcement of his board position here.
“We are excited to be a part of the growth of Envision Dallas,” said Mr. Kimbler. “The need for employment opportunities and services is great in the North Texas region. Envision Dallas is committed to improving the lives of people who are blind or low vision.”
The generous gift from Larry and Susy Kimbler will help to fulfill the $2 million Mabee Foundation challenge grant that Envision Dallas recently received. Envision Dallas’s $15 million capital campaign initiative will establish a new state-of-the-art center in Farmers Branch, a suburb of Dallas, focused on increasing manufacturing and knowledge-based employment opportunities as well as promoting access to resources key to independent living for people with vision loss. As a tribute to their generosity, the new Envision Dallas building will be home to the Larry and Susy Kimbler BVI Leadership Center.
“The gift from the Larry and Susy is a great testament to the heart they have for people who are blind or visually impaired,” said David Stupay, managing director of Envision Dallas. “Larry has dedicated much of his life towards working to further the work of advancing and providing opportunities to them. We are so honored to have him serve on our board of directors and be an integral part of our future.”
Envision the Possibilities, a campaign for Envision Dallas, will be dedicated to relocating the current Dallas operations to a new 210,000-square-foot campus in Farmers Branch that is conveniently located which helps increase accessibility to clients and employees who are BVI. The new campus will nearly double its current size and allow for growth of Envision Dallas’ employment, educational and rehabilitation services.
